Park History
Sywell Country Park came into being following the closure of the reservoir and associated works in 1976 and subsequently passing into the hands of the Council in 1983 to be used for recreation and leisure. The park extends to a total of 57 hectares (140 acres), with 27.5 hectares (68 acres) covered by water.
The reservoir was originally opened in 1906 by the Higham Ferrers and Rushden Water Board and supplied water to both towns until its decommissioning. Much of the original infrastructure still exists today, some of it repurposed for visitors and wildlife to enjoy, while other parts remain hidden underground. Many of these features have been, and continue to be, maintained by enthusiasts and Volunteers with the support of FoSCP.
